Burn Athlete Name

Antigone Foust

Location

Lake Wylie/Tega Cay

What is your position with Burn?

Trainer

How did you find out about Burn?

In 2015, I saw a Facebook post about the future opening of Burn LW/TC. I reached out to Amanda Berger, we met for coffee, and she invited me to a Burn camp at HQ. I was addicted day one, and the rest is history!

Go-to workout routine?

My workout routine is simple. I attend five Burn camps per week and I try to go beast mode at each one. I concentrate on form first, but I go as fast as I can and I lift as heavy as I can while maintaining proper form. I love a good white board workout where I can get in my own zone and really push myself.

Favorite burst training workout?

Anything but jump knee tucks (and many of you moms probably know why!)

Favorite strength training workout?

I am a fan of upper body strength days. I am 48 years old, and the Burn upper body camps make me feel young again by reminding me of the strength I had as a collegiate swimmer. My absolute favorite strength exercise is any kind of pull-ups!

Favorite cardio workout?

I prefer cardio camps with 60 second stations and outside sprints between exercises or rounds. My goal is always to work the entire minute at max effort and push my legs on the run. I preach and believe in the power of positive thoughts, and remind myself of that when things get tough.

Go-to pre workout snack?

Anyone who knows me knows I am a greek yogurt fanatic! I eat plain, non-fat Greek yogurt with a little stevia to make it sweet about an hour before camp. It satisfies my sweet tooth, it is easy on my tummy, and fuels my body!

Go-to post workout snack?

Afterburn, baby! I refer to it as “liquid gold.” I mix it with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and lots of ice cubes.

Favorite healthy meal?

Grilled salmon, asparagus and a sweet potato is my favorite healthy meal.

Favorite healthy restaurant in your area?

I really enjoy eating out so I try to find healthy options wherever I go. One of my favorite restaurants is the Flipside Cafe in Fort Mill. I love the Warm Asparagus Salad, which includes kale, asparagus, mushrooms, and a fried egg. Trust me, it’s delicious!

Workout equipment you couldn’t live without?

I couldn’t live without my gloves; however, the Burn floating floor is life changing and I never want to workout again without it!

Favorite athletic apparel?

My Saucony Bullet Capri’s are super comfy and I love the pockets. And I don’t come to camp without my Balega wool socks!

Favorite workout song?

My current favorite is Something Just Like This by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay, but I am always inspired when I hear Lose Yourself by Eminem.

Favorite inspirational quote?

“You can’t cheat the grind. It knows how much you’ve invested. It won’t give you anything you haven’t worked for.”

For the month of March we decided to feature Lindsay Bushnell, owner and trainer of Burn Boot Camp – Elizabeth in Charlotte, NC! Let’s see what’s in Lindsay’s gym bag…

Burn Athlete Name

Lindsay Bushnell

Location

Elizabeth

What is your position with Burn?

Owner Trainer

How did you find out about Burn?

My friend and neighbor (Mandy) brought me to Burn when I passed the 6 week clearance after my second c-section. After being a client for a few weeks, I met Kyle (one of my trainers at HQ) and fate made us business partners. Two years later, I’m an owner and trainer at our facility – Burn has truly changed my life for the better!

Go-to workout routine?

I’m a strength training girl – give me weights and I’m happy! For that reason, I do love cardio to challenge myself outside of my comfort zone. I’ll usually do a Burn cardio workout with a 30-45 minute weight training circuit in the afternoon.

Favorite burst training workout?

Battle rope slams, hands down!

Favorite strength training workout?

I set up a circuit of 3-4 targeted muscle groups (i.e. biceps, triceps or shoulders) and do 10 reps of my normal weight at each one, then 8 reps of 5 pounds heavier for the second round, 6 reps with heavier for the third round. Top it off with a light weight, high rep until exhaustion round.

Favorite cardio workout?

Cardio is definitely not my strong suit but I love tabata training. I can mentally justify 20 seconds of hard work and I always walk away feeling exhausted and satisfied.

Go-to pre workout snack?

A banana or half cup oats with 1 egg and 3 egg whites scrambled.

Go-to post workout snack?

Afterburn shake and Shaklee Chocolate Peanut Butter Meal Bar – YUM!

Favorite healthy meal?

Anything with chicken – I can (and do) eat it with every meal! One of my favorites is a casserole with quinoa, salsa and shredded chicken.

Favorite healthy restaurant in your area?

Viva Chicken. It’s about two blocks from the gym and we eat there at least once a week!

Workout equipment you couldn’t live without?

Dumbbells and pull up bar

Favorite athletic apparel?

Lululemon and Under Armour

Favorite workout song?

Eminem – Not Afraid

Favorite inspirational quote?

The same boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It’s about what you’re made of, not the circumstances.

Through each “What’s In Your Gym Bag’ monthly feature, we will get an inside look at what makes our Burn Athletes blaze bright against all other fitness communities. A couple weeks ago we sent our Burn Athlete of the Month, Lindsay Willis, a few questions to get to know what makes her the epic trainer that she is. Let’s see what’s in Lindsay’s gym bag…

Burn Athlete Name

Lindsay Willis

Location

Cary

What is your position with Burn?

Trainer

How did you find out about Burn?

I was a student at ECU working on my Health Fitness Specialist Degree. One of my classmates was a guy named Daniel Ballard, him and I took my very first Group Fitness Instruction class. When Burn Boot Camp, Cary, was coming to town I was contacted by Daniel who had so graciously recommended me for the job. I don’t think he realized it at the time, but he introduced me to my life’s passion and a group of ladies that I consider family now.

Go-to workout routine?

My workouts change all of the time! Being a former athlete definitely draws me to high intensity workouts involving jumping, sprinting and competing!

Favorite burst training workout?

I LOVE plyometric burst training workouts. I love to jump (probably because of my basketball background) so I am in LOVE with plyometrics, just ask my clients!

Favorite strength training workout?

I think it would have to be a tie between back and legs. I have always loved lifting heavy and moving big weight so these two muscle groups allow me to do just that.

Favorite cardio workout?

By my own admission, cardio is definitely not my favorite, HOWEVER majority of my cardio workouts include bursts of high intensity movements. I think my favorite cardio workouts would include hill sprints and sled pushes!

Go-to pre workout snack?

My go-to snacks are usually a rice cake with almond butter and sliced banana with my Ignite OR 2 Afterburn Almond Joy protein balls.. yum!

Go-to post workout snack?

I always have my Afterburn shake with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and cinnamon raisin ezekiel bread with almond butter.

Favorite healthy meal?

I have a true obsession with zoodles and spaghetti squash so I would have to say anything involving these two! One of my recent favorites was simple but delicious- zoodles with grilled chicken tenders and tomato-basil feta cheese!

Favorite healthy restaurant in your area?

We love B-Good. We had one close to us when we lived in Raleigh and they JUST opened one 5 minutes from our house. I go there at least once a week!

Workout equipment you couldn’t live without?

There is no way I could live without a squat rack. I love to lift heavy and legs are my favorite to train!

Favorite athletic apparel?

Nike has always been a favorite of mine but Lululemon is recently becoming a very close second!

Favorite workout song?

Louder by Yelawolf. My music taste is extremely eclectic but rap is my go-to when working out.

Favorite inspirational quote?

“Do not burn to burn out. Burn for what ignites worlds within you. Burn for love, and your truth, and for that earth shaking yes feeling. You are made of stars, and fiery passion. You are too alive to ever let yourself fade away.” – Sheena Jayne Martin
