Although we are sad to see summer end, there are still so many things to get excited about! Instead of choosing just one, we compiled our absolute favorite things about this month. We know you’ll love these as much as we do.

#1: Recovery

Take this time to slowly return to your normal schedule and allow enough time to recover from the post-summer excitement.

We don’t just mean physical recovery. There is a certain amount of mental recovery necessary this time of year, too. After all the vacations, social activities and exploring, it’s an adjustment to get back into a routine. Take this time to slowly return to your normal schedule and allow enough time to recover from the post-summer excitement. Taking a “nice and easy” approach rather than going all-in will keep your mind at ease and help you in this period of transition.

Try this:

Schedule time to focus on your health. Whether that means going to camp a few days a week and taking the rest as recovery days, it’s important to prioritize yourself. A great way to check in with your physical and mental health at the same time is to schedule a focus meeting with your trainer. Letting someone else know what your goals are and allowing yourself to take that time for you is a fantastic way to ensure you recover from however you felt about summer.

#2: At-Home Bodyweight Workouts

Do you ever feel like there are so many things on your to-do list, getting to the gym every day doesn’t seem to make the cut? Now that vacation is over and you are juggling more things in your life, it can be hard to factor in gym time—that extra half-hour you take driving to and from your workout can make or break whether you actually go. That’s why this August, we are loving at-home bodyweight workouts! If you have a few minutes between tasks, Burn Boot Camp at-home workouts are the perfect way to get your sweat on without the stress of going anywhere.

Try this:

This 15-minute workout you can do at home. These five exercises are quick and effective so that you can continue to prioritize your health even on your busiest days. Follow us on Instagram so that you never miss a new workout!

#3: Workout Wear

Pair a cute graphic top with a pair of bike shorts to show off how much you love being a part of Burn Nation. There are plenty of options available for purchase at your local Burn Boot Camp.

A good workout outfit is made up of two things: comfort and versatility. We love bike shorts because of the extra coverage and comfort they give to get us through the last of the humidity and warm weather—so in Burn Nation, this August is all about bike shorts. Not only are they a style staple for gym-goers and moms, they also protect against chafing and won’t ride up during camp—it’s a win-win!

Try this:

We love seeing how you style Burn apparel. Pick yours up today, snap a picture and tag us for the chance to be featured on our social media.

#4: Encouraging Others

It’s easy to get wrapped up in the chaos of the back-to-school season. Even if you don’t have children, the close of summer can stir up a number of thoughts:

“I never hit my goal weight this summer.”

“I didn’t have enough time to go on vacation.”

“The holidays are right around the corner and I don’t have enough time to get where I want to be!”

These thoughts can overwhelm us and often shift our minds to focus solely on what’s going on in our world, making us forget there are other people around us experiencing the same things. If we recognize our tendency to focus on the things going wrong in our own lives, we have an opportunity to flip the script and change the way we use our energy, thoughts and words.

Try this:

Go out of your way to encourage someone who might be struggling or even help someone who is succeeding to keep going! Whether it is at camp, on social media or in line at the grocery store, we all have the power to provide encouragement for others. Your words have the power to change someone’s day, week, month, and maybe even year. Something as simple as a high-five at camp or telling someone their smile is infectious can mean the world to them. Check out how Burn Boot Camp Newport News, VA helps members share words of encouragement with their Burn Sisters!

#5: Meal Prep

Meal Prep is one of our top favorites this month.

Back to school means shuffling kids to school and sports practice, scheduling appointments around work and trying to figure out what to make for dinner with the little time you have left. It’s easy to default to fast-food options to get you through the chaos, which is why we love meal prep!

Try this:

Take 30 minutes to an hour on Sunday to prepare easy and healthy breakfasts on-the-go, snacks, lunches and dinner. Making these meals in advance will set you and your family up for a week of healthy eating. To get you started, here are some tips from Burn trainers to help make meal prep easier.

5 Benefits of Developing a Strong Fitness Community https://burnbootcamp.com/5-benefits-developing-strong-fitness-community/ Thu, 22 Mar 2018 14:10:15 +0000 https://burnbootcamp.com/?p=17828

Have you ever had one of those days where the last thing you want to do is work out? Maybe you’re tired, you’re stressed about work or things going on at home, and you just want to flop down onto your couch and relax.

We often try to talk ourselves out of exercising, internally justifying the decision and even negotiating with ourselves in some way to skip the gym, pass on that yoga class, or avoid going outside for a run.

Now, have you ever been in that same situation, but had a friend say, “Nope! We’re not taking today off, let’s go to the gym!” In the back of your mind you might be complaining, but you reluctantly peel yourself off the couch and go crush that workout.

Before you know it you feel a rush of endorphins, a smile spreads across your face, and you leave feeling energized and appreciative of the encouragement that got you there. That is one of the many reasons why having a supportive community around you is important and can help you accomplish your goals!

Whether your closest network of supporters is made up of family members, friends, or colleagues, having a support system is valuable when trying to make changes for your health and physical fitness.

As a Burn Trainer, I think fostering a supportive community around you is vital for a healthy, happy life! Here are my top 5 reasons why:

1. Support

We’ve all had times in our lives where things aren’t going the way we want them too. When we fall down, it’s easy to realize that we can’t always get back up on our own.

Sometimes we need our support systems to show us that we’re not alone in the challenge we’re facing and to remind us that we have a supportive group of people who may be experiencing the same journey we’re on. For example, the community we’ve built at Burn Boot Camp has gotten many of my clients through tough times in their lives!

2. Motivation

Finding motivation everyday can be a tough task, especially when going at it alone. It’s inevitable that we’ll wake up some days not feeling like doing anything and needing help to find the motivation to push ourselves.

Have you ever been having a terrible day when a friend comes by, gives you a compliment, and your mindset completely changes? Words of encouragement can go a long way and you never know the impact they will have on the people around you!

3. Accountability

Everyone needs someone to hold them accountable. Whether it means not skipping out on those last couple reps at the gym, choosing the healthier option when out to eat with friends, or pushing through a tough workout when you feel like you have nothing left in the tank, your community is there to push you past your own limitations.

Surround yourself with people that are going to bring the best out in you, and this will push you to make positive choices in your life!

4. Energy

Energy is contagious. When someone comes up to you with a big smile and a high five, it’s nearly impossible to hold back your own smile and reciprocate! When that energy is magnified by an entire group of people, it becomes even more infectious.

If you go to the gym by yourself and do the same old routine, it’s difficult to find energy every day. Instead, working out with others in a supportive environment can bring out a positive attitude and give you the energy you need to crush your workout… even on those days when your mind tells you that you can’t!

5. Inspiration

You may be thinking, “I’m just an average person, who am I going to inspire?” Well, inspiration can come from anyone! Watching someone accomplish something you thought was impossible will expand your perceived limits. It will open your eyes to new possibilities you never thought you were capable of.

Remember, you never know who you’re inspiring! Challenges are relative to every individual, but when you overcome adversity, push yourself outside your comfort zone, and refuse to give up when things get tough, you can inspire anyone regardless of your fitness level. “You don’t inspire others by being perfect. You inspire them by how you handle your imperfections.”

Are you chasing a goal that you haven’t been able to achieve, working out for the first time in over a year, or struggling to motivate yourself? If you are, I encourage you to find a support system that will help you grow, that will push you to the next level, that will have your back when things get tough, and that will be there to celebrate all of your achievements with you as you progress through your fitness journey.

Accomplishing your goal can be an intimidating task, but I can guarantee it’s much easier to do with a community supporting you every step of the way.

Do You Really Want to be an Entrepreneur? https://burnbootcamp.com/do-you-really-want-to-be-an-entrepreneur/ Fri, 19 Jan 2018 21:28:21 +0000 https://burnbootcamp.com/?p=17632

Entrepreneurship is hot right now. The term itself has become a buzzword made popular by business influencers who’ve succeeded at the highest level. The idea of financial freedom, high risk, and disruptive business ideas that change the world make the thought of entrepreneurship extremely attractive to many people, right?

Not so fast. If you asked thoroughbred entrepreneurs how they would define this style of business building, they’ll often have a significantly different interpretations.

What does entrepreneurship take?

As a proven serial entrepreneur who’s turned dumbbells in a parking lot into an $80 million fitness franchise, I would explain entrepreneurship like this:

Entrepreneurship is like building a skyscraper for 15-18 hours a day, using your bare hands.

Entrepreneurs can create a precise vision—the mega-building—knowing that they won’t get paid until the building is complete and they begin filling it with tenants. It takes years to build, with no expectations other than knowing that the building will change the world—despite what others may say.

Entrepreneurship is like building a skyscraper for 15-18 hours a day, using your bare hands.

In America, 96% of small businesses fail after five years. That means only 4% are still standing. Of that 4%, only 10% are standing after the 10-year mark. Keep in mind that “still standing” doesn’t mean they’re making any profit for themselves. Entrepreneurship is a sport where 9.9/10 players end up getting cut.

If you’re ready to take a massive risk, face uncertainty, and put in years of grinding, know that your payoff could be huge!

Commit to being an anomaly, I encourage you to go for it!

If this picture we’re painting doesn’t look as pretty to you as it does on the cover of Forbes, Fast Company, and Business Insider, then keep reading and I’ll make the game winnable for you!

Let me introduce you to a concept called intrapreneurship.

What is intrapreneurship?

If you’ve heard this term before, it often refers to an employee working for a corporation and hustling their way to the top. Although I believe in an entrepreneurial mentality within a corporation, I disagree that this is true intrapreneurship.

By all means, if you’re not willing to eat dirt and deal with problems all day, you belong in an organization as an employee. Intrapreneurship is simply structured entrepreneurship in the form of a partnership with a brand, otherwise known as franchising.

Why intrapreneurship?

Every franchise was started by an entrepreneur—someone who laid it all on the line to bring a product or service to the world. In a franchise brand you’re not working for anyone, but rather partnering with leaders and becoming your very own business owner.

Where does my definition of intrapreneurship come from? You’re an “entrepreneur” who works “inside” of a framework. If you were to ask the most successful investors in the world to sum up their strategy, a large majority would say “asymmetrical risk-reward.” This means getting the maximum amount of upside while reducing the downside as much as possible.

The business starts and stops with you. You have the same opportunity to create financial freedom and live life on your own terms without all of the risk and uncertainty that comes with starting from scratch.

Is intrapreneurship opportunity right for you?

I have few points you may want to consider when choosing a brand to partner with.

1. What is your passion? What would you like to wake up and do every day that wouldn’t feel like a job? For example, if you’re passionate about fitness, investing in a barbershop probably won’t bode well for you long term! Follow your heart first and the money will come.

2. Find a brand with stellar leadership. Take your time, do your research, and get to know the person driving the brand. Often times private equity firms acquire brands and become very cold and sterile to their franchise owners. Instead of going in that direction, look for a brand that has created a family culture for its franchise partners and predicated impact to the world over dollars.

3. Find a brand with a raving fan culture. Eventually, we are all going to go through an economic downturn. The companies that thrive during these times are the ones who don’t just have clients, consumers, or customers, but those who create a culture of raving fans. Falling in love with a product or service is dangerous so ensure they meet the needs of their raving fans rather than their own.

4. Look for a brand that clearly markets themselves across various social channels. Business is two things: marketing and evolution. If you can’t find a large presence on a brand’s Facebook, Instagram, Google, YouTube, and/or blog, that’s a red flag!

If you want to make the move to intrapreneurship and you’re passionate about fitness, health, and impacting other people, Burn Boot Camp would love to consider bringing you on as a Franchise Partner! I have built Burn Boot Camp from one location in a parking lot to over 330 awarded territories in the United States in our first three years, and we exude everything I think a modern day intrapreneurship desires!

Follow your heart, and if it leads you to Burn Boot Camp, fill out this form and we will be in contact with you shortly!
