Entrepreneurship is hot right now. The term itself has become a buzzword made popular by business influencers who’ve succeeded at the highest level. The idea of financial freedom, high risk, and disruptive business ideas that change the world make the thought of entrepreneurship extremely attractive to many people, right?

Not so fast. If you asked thoroughbred entrepreneurs how they would define this style of business building, they’ll often have a significantly different interpretations.

What does entrepreneurship take?

As a proven serial entrepreneur who’s turned dumbbells in a parking lot into an $80 million fitness franchise, I would explain entrepreneurship like this:

Entrepreneurship is like building a skyscraper for 15-18 hours a day, using your bare hands.

Entrepreneurs can create a precise vision—the mega-building—knowing that they won’t get paid until the building is complete and they begin filling it with tenants. It takes years to build, with no expectations other than knowing that the building will change the world—despite what others may say.

Entrepreneurship is like building a skyscraper for 15-18 hours a day, using your bare hands.

In America, 96% of small businesses fail after five years. That means only 4% are still standing. Of that 4%, only 10% are standing after the 10-year mark. Keep in mind that “still standing” doesn’t mean they’re making any profit for themselves. Entrepreneurship is a sport where 9.9/10 players end up getting cut.

If you’re ready to take a massive risk, face uncertainty, and put in years of grinding, know that your payoff could be huge!

Commit to being an anomaly, I encourage you to go for it!

Let me introduce you to a concept called intrapreneurship.

What is intrapreneurship?

If you’ve heard this term before, it often refers to an employee working for a corporation and hustling their way to the top. Although I believe in an entrepreneurial mentality within a corporation, I disagree that this is true intrapreneurship.

By all means, if you’re not willing to eat dirt and deal with problems all day, you belong in an organization as an employee. Intrapreneurship is simply structured entrepreneurship in the form of a partnership with a brand, otherwise known as franchising.

Why intrapreneurship?

Every franchise was started by an entrepreneur—someone who laid it all on the line to bring a product or service to the world. In a franchise brand you’re not working for anyone, but rather partnering with leaders and becoming your very own business owner.

Where does my definition of intrapreneurship come from? You’re an “entrepreneur” who works “inside” of a framework. If you were to ask the most successful investors in the world to sum up their strategy, a large majority would say “asymmetrical risk-reward.” This means getting the maximum amount of upside while reducing the downside as much as possible.

The business starts and stops with you. You have the same opportunity to create financial freedom and live life on your own terms without all of the risk and uncertainty that comes with starting from scratch.

Is intrapreneurship opportunity right for you?

I have few points you may want to consider when choosing a brand to partner with.

1. What is your passion? What would you like to wake up and do every day that wouldn’t feel like a job? For example, if you’re passionate about fitness, investing in a barbershop probably won’t bode well for you long term! Follow your heart first and the money will come.

2. Find a brand with stellar leadership. Take your time, do your research, and get to know the person driving the brand. Often times private equity firms acquire brands and become very cold and sterile to their franchise owners. Instead of going in that direction, look for a brand that has created a family culture for its franchise partners and predicated impact to the world over dollars.

3. Find a brand with a raving fan culture. Eventually, we are all going to go through an economic downturn. The companies that thrive during these times are the ones who don’t just have clients, consumers, or customers, but those who create a culture of raving fans. Falling in love with a product or service is dangerous so ensure they meet the needs of their raving fans rather than their own.

4. Look for a brand that clearly markets themselves across various social channels. Business is two things: marketing and evolution. If you can’t find a large presence on a brand’s Facebook, Instagram, Google, YouTube, and/or blog, that’s a red flag!

Alright, I’ll come clean: As hard as I try to stick to my diet and exercise routine, sometimes I fail. Many people think that because I’m a personal trainer I have a perfect diet and never miss a workout. Actually, that assumption couldn’t be further from the truth!

As a husband, father, trainer, speaker, and business owner I have the craziest schedule. One night I could be in Dallas, Texas with expert trainer Mike Harper rocking his orientation, and the next day flying to New York City for a segment on Fox and Friends.

Sometimes my schedule gets the best of me and I fall off track. Over the last few weeks my workouts have reduced by 50% in frequency, and when I do work out I haven’t been as focused. I never “blow it out” with my nutrition, but it has been consistently off track.

But I’m not ashamed to tell you any of this. I know many of you go through the same struggles that I do—trust me when I say you’re not alone.

There will always be times when we fall off track from our goals and progress. Keep your psychology strong by realizing that you’re only a failure if you stop trying. You don’t have to be perfect or flawless, you just have to commit to the endless pursuit of your goals.

For those times when you’re feeling off, use the following four tips in my “Get Back on Track” formula!

1. Set a goal with a timeline. Solidify your goals by committing to a schedule. For example, I had to re-motivate myself earlier this year by scheduling our Burn Athlete photo shoot. If it’s time for you to take your fitness to the next level, then put it on the schedule. You’ll feel more committed to meeting every goal.

2. Be more grateful. When things get overwhelming, sometimes all we need to do is to open our eyes and fix our focus! Take time to step back and appreciate the good in your life. You are blessed in so many ways. Maybe your body isn’t where you’d like it to be, maybe you’re highly stressed at work, or maybe your eating habits aren’t consistent. But take some time to recognize the progress that you’ve made. Trade your expectations for appreciation and you’ll change your state of mind instantly.

3. Drink meal replacement smoothies. While meal prepping is hugely beneficial to building healthy eating habits, sometimes you get sick and tired of cooking and eating the same things, right? Here are 25 all-natural protein smoothie recipes that will help you to switch up your routine while still getting your protein in.

4. Modify your inputs. What are you doing between the hours of 5 pm and 10 pm? I find that this is when success happens. Many people are tuned into their phones and TVs in the evenings watching other people’s lives from afar. I live by the “No Extra Time Rule,” or the NET Rule. By filling up all the time that I’m awake with good inputs like healthy food, effective workouts, self-improvement newsletters, books, and working on my passion I have no extra time for bad inputs. Refusing to allow bad inputs like reality TV or endless Facebook feed scrolling can change your life. You must stand guard at your brain every single day and control your inputs!

I hope my tips will be helpful for you the next time you feel like you’ve fallen off track. When you start with Burn Boot Camp or any other fitness program, you will eventually lose that initial motivation. That’s only natural.

That’s okay, though, because if you’re truly passionate and dedicated to achieving your goals, that motivation will come back like clockwork!

Especially when we can have food delivered to our doorstep and have easy access to fast, inexpensive options on-the-go.

Don’t take the easy way out! In order for our bodies to shred unwanted body fat, they need the right kinds of fuel! Below you’ll find my 6 easy tricks to get you in the groove of making healthy choices, without thinking twice!

1. Replace All Cooking Oils with Coconut Oil

The omegas in olive oil are great when served cold, but as soon as you apply enough heat, the fats denature. Just as with any cooked food, heat can damage or alter the nutrients. However, coconut oil has a high boiling point and and will turn your body into a fat burning machine! Do not be scared of good fats. Ironically, sugar is actually what turns into unhealthy fat within your body. I like to tell all of my clients to make you’re body omega positive and you’ll feel better, burn fat faster, and reduce inflammation.

2. Switch From Your Current Bread to Ezekiel Bread

“Whole grain” or “whole wheat” bread is not what it claims to be, and it is also highly processed. Anytime you see “enriched wheat flour” or “blanched wheat flour,” run the other direction quickly! My go-to is 100% sprouted whole grain ezekiel bread with live enzymes to support bodily functions. In my opinion, this is the best bread you can eat to fuel your body. My favorite kind is cinnamon raisin. Although it has a few grams of sugar, it will keep you feeling full and satisfied!

3. Drink 24 Oz of Water Upon Awakening

Water is your body’s best friend! Start every morning with 24 oz of spring water to flush out your system. At first this will seem like a lot of water, but you will get used to it. Tip: If you really want to rev up your metabolism, throw in a pinch of cayenne pepper and enjoy!

4. Trade In Your Splenda for Stevia

Studies suggest that Splenda is correlated with heart disease and cancer. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS! It’s essentially fake sugar and found in products like Diet Coke. If Stevia is available, make the switch! Stevia is a natural sweetener extracted from plants that is perfectly healthy (when sourced correctly). I’ve watched clients make this switch and their body fat started to fall right off!

5. Lean and Green For Dinner

Eating heavy starches at night can often hinder weight loss efforts. To promote muscle, fill up on a protein-packed dinner with your favorite veggies on the side. It is perfectly okay to cook these veggies in coconut or grapeseed oil with any spice you choose!

6. Drink Almond or Coconut Milk instead of Skim Milk

Skim milk is another one of those marketing scams. Though all fat is extracted from skim milk, it is replaced with unhealthy fillers. Try substituting it for almond or coconut milk! Almond milk in particular is delicious and has twice as much calcium as cow’s milk. Chocolate almond milk is also a great substitute that even your kids will love! Tip: To make up for that extra protein you might be missing by eliminating cow’s milk, make an Afterburn shake with almond milk!

I hope these tricks are some easy ways to get yourself thinking about the food choices you make, what you’re really putting into your body, and healthier alternatives. Practice these options on a daily basis and watch your body fat fall off!

Lately, I have been diving deep into a lot of in depth reading material! From the 1,000+ question exam I will pass to earn my CNC, to every business audiobook I can find…  much of my free time has been spent trying improve my mental and physical capabilities. There is always room for improvement!

As I was running 6 miles last night listening to Tony Robbins – Business Mastery on YouTube – he revealed the single most comprehensive way to solve any problem in your life. This tip was such a huge motivator for me; so I decided to share it with you!

As Tony always says, you have to be in the right “state” of mind in every situation! Are you ready?

If today isn’t your best day, do something to change the physiological state of your body RIGHT NOW! The thoughts that run through your head continually influence your perspective and feelings towards life in general. Don’t let those thoughts get in the way of your successes! Don’t believe me? Try this tip…

Tip: If you need to dramatically change your mood in just minutes, ask yourself these three questions…

  • What are you REALLY grateful for?
  • What makes you extremely proud of yourself?
  • Who do you love unconditionally?
  • Think about these three things with laser focus and watch how quickly your mood can change from sleepy, unmotivated, lethargic… to happy and excited for your day to day life!

The key to solving any problem is realizing that problems don’t really exist. I know that sounds crazy! The term “problem” really means you simply don’t have an answer to something.

Think about it, all problems are really just unanswered questions. The key to intelligent problem solving is figuring out what questions you need to ask yourself and how those questions are going to lead to positive results.

Tony created a system that I’ve have used with my “problems” as well as my clients “problems”. It has helped me change my perspective on life and has always aided me in facing various obstacles that I stress about day to day or long term.

There is a CURE to changing your life and making it stress free. When you ask yourself the right questions, you’ll change your perspective on life. I know this may seem kinda deep, but Tony provided an easy system for us to start implementing this method as soon as possible.

So whether you struggle with nutrition, work, home life, kids, or anything else life throws your way, realize that every situation is a blessing. Your problem gives you an opportunity to find answers, certainty, and truth if you ask the right questions. Problems aren’t burdens that you carry; they are a necessary part of life that shape who you are!

Robbin’s Problem Solving Method

It’s important to know that 5% of your time should be spent asking the question, or problem (How can I lose weight? What do I need to change to see results? Etc) and 95% of your time should be spent answering the question to the problem (AKA: Figuring out the solution).

So whatever problem you’re facing in life, ask the following questions to yourself. Take the time to step away with pen and paper. For each of the following questions, provide four thorough answers. It is key to trust this process and enjoy working through each problem, knowing you’re going to eventually end up with the answer you’re looking for.

What makes this great?

You’ll probably say, “Nothing is great about this”… but you have to give yourself four valid reasons why this problem you’re facing is great. It could be that you learned something or discovered a new opportunity. Think of all of the ways that you are blessed and how this problem is not going to rid you of those blessings!

What’s not perfect yet?

Don’t focus on what’s “wrong” – Focus on what isn’t you need to change about this situation to make it perfect.

What are you willing to do to solve it? What are you not willing to do?

Be honest! What are you willing to do? How are you willing to step up? What are you absolutely not willing to do anymore? How are you no longer willing to feel? Give four valid feelings or things you will absolutely start doing or stop doing right now.

How can you enjoy the process of solving your problem?

Now that you have a game plan, how can you truly enjoy the process? What are you going to do to make the most of this situation?

 

Isn’t that pretty easy? It is a simple tool to make yourself a better problem solver! By going through this exercise with any perceived problem you will be asking yourself the right questions to reveal a clear and consistent answer.

The best part is, when YOU write it or say it, it has to be true. If someone else tells you how to solve it, you can doubt them. There is no denying the truth when it comes from your own thoughts and words.

I hope you take a moment to write this down, and really use this in your life. Remember, you must be in the right state of mind or this won’t work as well. You have the power to change your life! Now get to work!
